Smart sound panel
The “Dracaena” sound panel is part of a family of 3 products I designed during my erasmus trip in Argentina. It is repairable and reacts to sound in a space through servo motors moving the arms. This project was carried out solo by me.
The aim with this project was to create an interactive and emotional experience.
From my research I found that directing sound panels and distancing them from walls can be very effective.
By making the “arms” of the panel direct towards sound, noise reduction is maximised and spaces become alive.
I also put particular attention in 3 other categories:
Repairability, personalization and easy storage.
The panel is composed of a metal frame, 6 felt PET sound panels and internal electrical components.
The PET felt components are the first to generally get ruined with sound panels and the ability to easily exchange them gives the object longevity.
It also allows the user to personalize it after
acquisition with differently colored panels.
When the panel is closed, it occupies minimal
space making it optimal for shipping.
